My favorite spot out of all the spots we visited (other then on the sofa with Katie and Joels pugs Daisey and Butch) was Beluga Bay. But I found Alaska wasn’t all mountains. We explored the beach (it was rocky and near the airport, I embarrassed myself the first time an airplane went by, shooting up and cowering under my camera lol) and we went downtown Anchorage, which was full of the expected tourist souvenir shops but also with the most lovely art and textile galleries. Here is a few more of my favorites from the trip.

Oh corny or not I made two good friends traveling up to Anchorage to photograph Katie and Joel’s engagement session. Worth repeating myself, they made me feel as if I were part of their family coming to visit after not seeing each other in a long time, and really it wasn’t just one session it was three days of traveling in and around the stupefyingly beautiful place that is Alaska. I am in love, infatuated, adore their images, so hard to choose what to share out of so many frames… here is the first try, with images from Hope, Alaska, Earthquake park and flat top mountain. I have been hoarding images. I just got back from Anchorage Alaska I stayed with a couple who brought me into their home and spent three days treating me like family. Alaska took my breath away, everywhere one turns it’s mountains, and birds, and green and lush. I want to go back and kyak, mountain climb, explore, every bit of air smelled crisp and clean, the water, trapped and brought to town from glaciers, well every sip was perfect. I cannot thank them enough for the experience. Today here on the blog it’s just the mountains, some of the forest, a fish :) I’ll share the couple who brought me to such beautiful places in such a generous way soon. They might even top the view.

festifools 2011 . ann arbor parade photographer :)

I had wanted to take Ares to Ann Arbor for the Festifool parade, we hadn’t ever been so we were planning on it finally this year! I met my studio mate Matt a bit early and took some photographs of his students, who made these amazing costumes from paper cutting and folding!

I won’t mince words, the costumes, the people were awesome, the weather, well it slushed, rained and overall was a cold damp mess, but the spirt of the parade made at least ME forget the weather and delight (did I just say delight, but I did, I did delight) in the outstandingly fantabulous costumes and the people who wore them to celebrate.

I think I was even more interested in the people holding up the awesome puppets.. it was very cool to be right there at the beginning.. like seeing two different worlds, above and below!

can’t wait to go again next year!

antigua, guatemala . personal

Near the end of last year (yes 2010, last year :) ) Sean and I were invited by Stevi and Jose’s family to come to Antigua, Guatemala and photograph their wedding. We were beyond excited, but we had no idea what to expect. Antigua was beyond our wildest dreams. We had the amazing privilege to spend a week there, with Stevi and Jose’s friends and family as they prepared for the wedding and for a few days afterwords where we got to explore and discover the whole of the town. I’ll be sharing Stevi and Jose’s destination wedding later in the week but I wanted to share first just a few frames, so hard to choose from the many we photographed, to set the stage for the magic that is Antigua.
