some family time

It’s a whirlwind, three destination shoots out of town this June/July and weddings every weekend I’m in town, not to mention portrait sessions, things are popping and the blog has suffered a touch. We did get to spend a few days together as a family in Mexico shooting Michelle and Brendon’s Mayan Riviera wedding. Here are a few of our family snaps, visiting cenotes, Chichen Itza and hanging on the beach at the resort. A little tropical break before heading back to my busiest year yet. I’m so lucky to be able to do what I do, love it and be able to spend time with my most amazing men well I couldn’t ask for more honestly. If I won the lottery I wouldn’t change a thing (well I might do some more shopping and hire a housekeeping service :) )

we went to the zoo

Ares took me to the zoo with his whole kindergarten class and then we went back to see the aquarium a few days later. he’s out of school now a first grader, summer vacation here he comes. This was his end of year celebration :)

I can’t believe how big he is and how fast we’ve gotten here.

he’s going the distance.
he’s going for speed.
she’s all alone
all alone in her time of need.
because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
he’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
he’s going the distance.

We indulged it has been for sale across the street for a while, I did a little talking them down and had them throw in he helmet and some snow skis. Needless to say we’re heros this week.. next week, when summer vaca starts and we start making him read his early reading books, maybe that’ll change, but I’m enjoying my hero status this week for sure.

Becoming a mom changed me in ways I could never have imagined. Being Ares mom empowered me, opened my eyes to so many things I didn’t understand about my own childhood and my own mother, taught me to not sweat the small stuff (for real), to stand up for myself when I used to let things I shouldn’t go go and that I could accomplish anything. I don’t have any photographs of me and my mother after I was a baby something I can never get back. History will not repeat itself with me and my son :) Here are a few of us from the last few years :) I love him so much and am so thankful for him. Thank you Ares for the awesome card and the nap today and for being my most amazing bean, I love you!

I think that Bridget and Jacob’s van on the way to the Botanical Gardens (and on the way to ice cream after) was the coolest place to shoot ever. I think that a field of daffodils is a blessed thing to see. I think that Bridget and Jacob are amazing, Issiah reminded me so much of my Bean I had to keep from hugging him non-stop and that Ethan is most likely going to have the energy to take over the world. Even their dogs are awesome. You’ll see that in the frames below, so much goodness.

lazy spring holiday weekend

One of the things that is so easily forgotten when you are busy and running around, working, helping, volunteering, and trying to love your family and friends is that just being with the people you love is the best way to love them. Time is perhaps the most precious thing.. the most intangible and the easiest to let slip away. This weekend we had the cousins together, we had done the whole big easter hunt the week before and so we bbq’d rode bikes, ran in the rain, ate and cuddled.. missing people who couldn’t be here and appreciating those who could.
