festifools 2011 . ann arbor parade photographer :)

I had wanted to take Ares to Ann Arbor for the Festifool parade, we hadn’t ever been so we were planning on it finally this year! I met my studio mate Matt a bit early and took some photographs of his students, who made these amazing costumes from paper cutting and folding!

I won’t mince words, the costumes, the people were awesome, the weather, well it slushed, rained and overall was a cold damp mess, but the spirt of the parade made at least ME forget the weather and delight (did I just say delight, but I did, I did delight) in the outstandingly fantabulous costumes and the people who wore them to celebrate.

I think I was even more interested in the people holding up the awesome puppets.. it was very cool to be right there at the beginning.. like seeing two different worlds, above and below!

can’t wait to go again next year!

so at a time of the year where it’s “the best of” blog posts all around I wanted to get in on the action, then a viral site went about, and I indulged. I’ve been shooting professionally almost four years, weddings for three now. I’ve been 100% no backup job, doing what I love for one year and two months. Sometimes I get all caught up on moving forward and I don’t give myself the joy of looking back. So I created this pummelvision and it was like a huge reminder for why I do what I do, why I love creating images and interacting with the people I’m photographing.

I hope you enjoy it even a little bit as much as I enjoyed being part of creating it these past few years I’ll be so pleased. It’s a mix of Personal Work, Family Photos with some Client images mixed in here and there and it makes my heart sing.

Wishing you and yours a year that is even more full of mystery and delight, of love and laughter and honest lovely communication than the year before. Wishing you a safe and joyful new year.

When Raven and I met (with her awesome mother) to discuss her wedding and my photography we both felt like we must have been sisters separated at birth. We have so much in common! It goes without saying that I was really looking forward to the engagement session!

We started out at Belle Isle and then starving went down to Mexican Town right downtown Detroit. It was a WONDERFUL afternoon so much fun.

honestly, it is not the most exciting thing to watch your dad and his fiance hold hands for two hours :) but Alex and Lydia were so sweet, just the best kids, the very sweetly allowed me to include them in the pictures a bit :)

Monday we took the day off and got out of the house and out of our yard to explore a bit.. we went to a new park and just hung out. Just Ares and mom since dad was golfing (which is not my thing, though I must add I’ve never ACTUALLY tried it, it just takes so long, the LAST thing I need is another hobby and one that takes up half the day!! lol)

We discovered a stream and when Ares said he thought he wanted to try it out I didn’t even hesitate, he went in with his shoes and all (those came off quick, even COLDER with the shoes on) I tried to take a video but between keeping my camera dry and taking pictures or the video camera, well the pictures won out!)

I stepped in too but NOT for long it was freaking cold in there.. and I was keeping an eye out, there weren’t any signs that said to stay on the path but I had a feeling like maybe we’d get hollered at by the park police…. I’m still a rebel at heart!

So what do you do when you are done spending a morning at the park, well I wanted to go location scouting of course (I can’t really do anything without turning it into a photography related event it’s a sickness I tell you!) and Ares was not at all interested in that but with the promise of some ice cream at the end of the rainbow

me: I promise you will not have to get out of the car.

ares : *slight bit of suspicioun* I am not going to have to be in any pictures.

me : no I promise, didn’t I take pictures today that you were not in, that is possible you know.

ares : alright but not for long, deal?

me : deal

(and it was only an extra twenty minutes or so and I let him pick the music of course he picked vampire weekend)

It was quite a nice day all around!
