I met Shari, Jim and their two girls in Ann Arbor for a play day around the local co-op gardens. It was a perfectly perfect summer day for a perfectly perfect in the very best way family. I can’t wait to share the images with you. Thank you all for sharing the afternoon with me :)

What an amazing family, I had such a lovely time photographing them. While I was processing the frames from my session with Shannon, Ryan and Jasper I couldn’t stop grinning, each and every image just made me delight in how much in love this family is.

I was so eager to take little Ella’s picture that I actually showed up a day early in a rainstorm :) her parents were very sweet and kindly told me to just come back the next day for our actual appointment, I did and the weather showed up as well, a beautiful sunny afternoon just for us.

It has been a while since I’ve done portraits with the light and there were so many that came out wonderfully I almost blogged them all. beautiful.

Monday we took the day off and got out of the house and out of our yard to explore a bit.. we went to a new park and just hung out. Just Ares and mom since dad was golfing (which is not my thing, though I must add I’ve never ACTUALLY tried it, it just takes so long, the LAST thing I need is another hobby and one that takes up half the day!! lol)

We discovered a stream and when Ares said he thought he wanted to try it out I didn’t even hesitate, he went in with his shoes and all (those came off quick, even COLDER with the shoes on) I tried to take a video but between keeping my camera dry and taking pictures or the video camera, well the pictures won out!)

I stepped in too but NOT for long it was freaking cold in there.. and I was keeping an eye out, there weren’t any signs that said to stay on the path but I had a feeling like maybe we’d get hollered at by the park police…. I’m still a rebel at heart!

So what do you do when you are done spending a morning at the park, well I wanted to go location scouting of course (I can’t really do anything without turning it into a photography related event it’s a sickness I tell you!) and Ares was not at all interested in that but with the promise of some ice cream at the end of the rainbow

me: I promise you will not have to get out of the car.

ares : *slight bit of suspicioun* I am not going to have to be in any pictures.

me : no I promise, didn’t I take pictures today that you were not in, that is possible you know.

ares : alright but not for long, deal?

me : deal

(and it was only an extra twenty minutes or so and I let him pick the music of course he picked vampire weekend)

It was quite a nice day all around!

I have something that I didn’t expect to happen in my lifetime, I have a family, extended and enlivened by those around us, that makes me feel like the most special woman in the world and I get to do what I love, with friends who support me and peers who enrich me. I am so blessed and I refuse to take it for granted even for a moment!

Heres just a few pictures of my Bean, we had the weather this last week so every chance we got we used it, kite flying and puddle jumping at the top of our list!

Jumping was just as much fun as watching the kite!

His hair is as long as mine! He says he wants to grow it down to his butt lol.. we’ll see how long it gets, but it’s totally up to him, I love it.

I’ll be away for a few days hosting not one but TWO OneLight Workshops. Zach Arias (check out his new blog it’s great) will be here and I won’t be as available as I usually am (I’ll try to check my email and get back but may do a lot of catchup on Friday). Please know that if you have questions or want to book your wedding I’ll be in touch with you as soon as I can!

valentines day

we made valentines for Ares birthday class the night before valentines

I loved making them (though they of course never end up as fancy as I imagine them being in my head, I’m a photographer not a paper crafts expert (like my friend Tonya!) ) It was a great reminder that trying something new, making some art fancy or not so fancy, like our valentines, is something worth making time for more then just on holidays!

I was at a friends house a few days ago and her daughter was making hearty craftys.. Couldn’t resist taking a few pics.
