amanda’s family maternity session

this is mothers day weekend so forgive a huge post but it couldn’t be helped. amanda and her family were amazing, beautiful and so much fun, and I went a bit crazy around their ann arbor home :) there is a beautiful song by lily allen about life nowadays seemingly more about film stars and less about mothers and so at least around here, at least around mothers day, I’m going to celebrate a mom, and moms in general. (note we’re seeing the crayola coloured bubbles again, and again yes they are being used much more like finger paint, lovely, fun, bright fingerpaint!)

amanda’s sister was there too and I got some nice shots of her, she styled the shoot and did fantastically! thanks sis!

Today is gray and rainy, but last week it was 80 and perfect and I met Kari and her family to celebrate her maternity and the soon to be new addition to her and Patricks beautiful family. This is the first family session where we played with the new crayola colored bubbles (it will not be the last I share with you!) and they are much more fun to splosh about and spray each other with then they are to bubble… (I may just start bringing paints to sessions!) so we had splatters and laughs and it was so fun.. here are some of the frames that were my favorite.

Randeep and Adam are expecting their first baby and Randeeps sister is one of my 2011 brides! It was a joy to meet more of Kiran’s family and it was absolute bliss getting outside and being able to shoot in the outdoors, which they love in March in Michigan! Randeep and Adam, congratulations on your growing family, I can’t wait to meet the new bean!

I met Claire and James when they were first pregnant with their son , and I photographed Max when he was just a few days old. The first time I met the Browns I felt like I had known them forever and when they moved out of state, well I missed them, is that odd? It’s true… so when Claire emailed and said they were coming back to town for just a few days and she was pregnant and could I make time to fit her into my busy schedule I said “no schedule is too busy for you”… so from Arizona into freezing, snowy Michigan they came and we met up at my studio and we took some beautiful photographs. Thank you Claire and James for letting me again be part of such a special time in your family. I heart you guys.

april maternity session

Garth emailed me to surprise his wife with a maternity/newborn session and the next day I got an email from April :)� I let him answer it with the surprise and was so happy to meet April and Garth a few weeks later.

The babies name is a surprise as well but I know that whatever he is named he is in amazing hands.� I cannot wait to meet him.

I think photographs, pictures, printed images, are some of the most important things after our hierarchy of needs.� I have one photograph of my Mother who died when I was 16 and it is much more to me then just a print on piece of paper. It’s my only tangiable connection to who she was.

I love family photographs.� Anyone’s.� I love that they exist.� Garth and April are in the process of archiving Garths mother Tavia Mullholland’s photographs and I enjoyed very much getting to look through them, thank you both.

When I walked into Claire and James home I felt so relaxed and welcome I felt like I’d known them for years.� They are both just wonderful and I am so happy to have gotten to share such a special time with them.

Something I work on constantly is cultivating fearlessness, challenging myself and doing work that is inspired by the people it is about while making it as true to my artist self as possible.� Claire had that fearlessness, her love of photography and her willingness to try something different was really awesome.� The rest of the images will be ready soon but I had to share a few.

They are going to be amazing parents.
