I like the still moments during the wedding day. They happen even amid the most frenetic chaos. Chrissy and Stephen created their own quiet moments during their wedding day, a pause here, a touch there. They were gracious to their guests, had fun with their bridal party. But they didn’t forget for one moment that they were there to promise themselves to each other and their love shone through every moment.
For katie and dan’s engagement session we shot at her favorite place, her family’s home near Detroit. Beyond beautiful, the home, the property and the couple. Here are a few we took as they showed me about :) They are huge runners and it was very nice to get a frame of them running off into the sunset..
I wanted to give a shout out to a photographer who I think of as a friend even though I’ve only met him twice. Zack Arias has besides being a world class photographer, taught the one light workshops and he teaches his approach to learning light all over the world. He was just named Complex magazines top 50 street photographers right now. I’m really happy for him. In the announcement on his blog he writes:

Zack was just honored for his street photography and in lovely Zack fashion he is using it as an opportinity to talk about the journey in attempting to do something with photography that is unique, that shows your voice and isn’t trying to swallow someone elses. No one system can or will create “it”, the individual journey does that. It’s important to remember that when so much around us says, do it like this to make this and doesn’t always encourage the creativity that makes us all the unique flowers we could be! This was a hard blog post because I kept grabbing shots of Ariana and of John and kept adding and adding and adding to the frames I’m sharing… I made myself stop because at some point I was going to crash everyone who came over to looks computers. I have to say their day was perfectly them and they are perfectly wonderful and it was a joy to be there and tell their wedding story.
Monica and Jason met me on the hottest day last month and we just took a walk about downtown Ann Arbor.. The wind was fantastic, so was the air conditioning in the book store and I got to know them a bit before their wedding, fun and teasing, they remind me a lot of Sean and I.. Can’t wait for their big day!
I’d met Dan before, at his sisters wedding. I didn’t get introduced to Danielle there but I knew I’d photographed her before. They live in Los Angles and had time for a quick session when visiting Detroit for the weekend. It was so good to meet them as bride and groom and we shot all the photos in and around Danielle’s mothers house. They let me play with the cool white brick wall and laid down on concrete for me and for that I am eternally thankful.
